Log Your Volunteer Hours

When you give your time, our whole school benefits. Please take a minute to record your hours—those minutes add up to powerful proof of parent and community engagement.

Why logging matters

PTAs log volunteer hours to demonstrate significant parent and community engagement, which is crucial for maintaining the PTA’s non-profit tax-exempt status and for securing grants and other funding. Logged hours also help schools qualify for awards, allow for accurate program evaluation, and provide concrete proof of community involvement to businesses, foundations, and the school district itself.

In short: your logged hours help MST PTA keep programs running and unlock future resources for our students.

Tips

  • If multiple family members volunteered, please submit separate entries for each person so our totals are accurate.

  • Don’t worry about being exact—reasonable estimates are welcome.

What counts as volunteer time?

Use your best judgment and count the time you spend supporting PTA work, including (but not limited to):

  • Attending PTA meetings, committee meetings, or trainings;

  • Planning, emailing, texting, calling, and coordination for PTA activities;

  • Creating flyers, website updates, social posts, or newsletters;

  • Event time: setup, hosting, clean-up, and follow-up tasks;

  • Travel time associated with volunteer activities;
  • Classroom support, chaperoning, or campus beautification done on behalf of PTA;

  • Purchasing and organizing supplies for an approved PTA activity (keep your receipts per PTA policy).

Please don’t count: time you’re paid for (as part of your job), purely personal errands, or activities unrelated to PTA.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Do at-home tasks count?
    Yes—planning, emailing, designing, phone calls, and supply runs for PTA activities all count.

  2. What if I forgot to log something from last month?
    Please log it! Late entries are still valuable.

  3. Can students log hours?
    Student help at PTA activities generally counts. Submit an entry for each student helper so we can include them in our totals.

  4. How are hours used?
    We aggregate totals to report impact to the RISD PTA, potential funders and community partners, and award programs. Your entries help us demonstrate the scope of our school community’s support.

Thank you!

Every hour you log strengthens our case for funding, recognition, and continued PTA programs.
