Help RISD students feel confident and ready to learn ๐
The RISD Council of PTAs Clothes Closet provides school-appropriate, well-fitting clothing to students throughout Richardson ISD who need a little extra support. The program has served RISD families for more than 40 years and is powered largely by PTA volunteers from schools across the district.
Students are referred to the Clothes Closet by their school counselor or nurse. Volunteers then help fill each student's request, which can include a week's worth of clothing, new shoes and socks, a winter coat, new underwear, and toiletries.
MST families have several ways to help support the Clothes Closet. Each sign-up is for a single volunteer shift—there’s no recurring commitment! Choose the opportunity and date(s) that work best for you.
The clothes closet is located at 1239 W. Beltline Rd (across from RHS and next to RISD Newcomer Center).
All volunteers must have a completed and approved yearly RISD Background Check. Approval can take up to 5 business days.
๐ Monday: Sort & Stock
Help receive, sort, organize, and stock clothing donations at the RISD Clothes Closet. Monday volunteers help make sure everything is organized and ready for volunteers filling student requests. No prep required -just come ready to sort and organize!

๐๏ธ ๐ Tuesday: Shop for Students and Deliver to Schools
This is where the Clothes Closet's mission really comes to life! Volunteers receive clothing requests from RISD students and “shop” the Clothes Closet to put together the items each student needs.
It's a hands-on way to help make sure a student has clothes that fit and the essentials they need for school.
Once student orders have been filled, we need volunteers to help get them where they need to go!
Delivery volunteers pick up completed clothing requests from the Clothes Closet and deliver them to the RISD schools that requested them.

๐งบ Thursday: Special Projects
Prefer a different kind of volunteer shift? Thursday Special Projects give volunteers a chance to tackle additional Clothes Closet needs that help keep the program organized and running smoothly. Projects may vary depending on what the Clothes Closet needs most at the time. In most cases, special projects take place on the third Thursday of the month.

Want to donate, too?
The Clothes Closet accepts new or like-new clothing from size 3T through Adult XXL+, along with coats and winter accessories, school uniforms, bras, backpacks and duffel bags. New shoes, underwear, socks, and toiletries are also needed.
Even clothing that is too worn to give directly to students can help: those items can be separated and labeled “World Wear,” and proceeds from textile recycling are used to purchase needed items for the Clothes Closet.
