Help Transform MST: Sign Up to Join the RTX + MST Day of Service

MST has been selected for a special Day of Service in partnership with the Travis Manion Foundation and RTX! On Saturday, September 19, RTX employees, local veterans, MST staff, and our families will come together to roll up our sleeves and transform several areas of our campus.

Throughout the day, volunteers will help tackle projects designed to elevate our campus and expand hands-on learning opportunities for our White Tigers. Plans include creating our new MST Innovation Yard, improving our Pre-K outdoor learning and play space, transforming Hammock Haven into an Engineering Art Walk, completing painting projects, refurbishing outdoor furniture, and more!

🛠️ We Need Our MST Families!

Parents, family members, and community volunteers are invited to join for the workday. Whether you are great with a paintbrush, comfortable with tools, willing to sand and build, or simply ready to lend a hand, there will be plenty to do.

 ⏰ Arrival: 7:30–8:00 AM | Work begins at 8:00 AM
 🥤 Snacks and hydration will be available throughout the day.
 🍽️ Lunch will be provided at the completion of the project.

This is an incredible opportunity to work alongside RTX, the Travis Manion Foundation, veterans, staff, and fellow MST families to leave a lasting impact on our campus. Many hands will make light work—and we want to see how much we can accomplish together!

MST Innovation Yard

Transform this underutilized courtyard into an MST Innovation Yard—an inviting extension of our classrooms and STEM learning spaces. The project would include painting two 8' x 8' chess boards on the existing concrete, installing whiteboards on the brick walls for outdoor instruction and collaboration, and bringing our Engineering Design Process to life along the ADA ramp with school-colored steps: Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Test, Improve.

The center area could be finished with either turf or concrete, creating a flexible, low-maintenance space for outdoor lessons, engineering challenges, collaboration, and creative play. Beyond instruction, the refreshed courtyard would provide students with a much more welcoming and engaging space to gather while waiting for buses at the end of the day.

Transform the Pre-K courtyard into a more intentional, engaging outdoor play space by finishing the existing racetrack with white crosswalks and sidelines, yellow center lines, and green-painted islands. These simple additions will create a defined space for tricycles and imaginative play while helping students practice movement, direction, and safety.

 

The project will also refurbish three Pre-K courtyard picnic tables to create durable spaces for outdoor learning, building, and collaboration. Volunteers will assemble, sand, and paint one new picnic table and replace the worn tops and bench boards on the remaining tables using kiln-dried 2x10x8 boards, finished in MST Royal Blue. Together, these updates will give the courtyard a fresh, cohesive look while creating a functional space our youngest White Tigers can enjoy every day.

 

 

Engineering Art Walk & Hammock Haven

Elevate our existing Hammock Haven into an Engineering Art Walk that celebrates both relaxation and student innovation. Volunteers will cut the excess length from the existing posts and add cross bracing to the 4x4 posts, creating a cleaner, more finished appearance while adding stability to the space.

 

Plexiglass covers will also be installed over QR codes on the posts, allowing students, staff, and visitors to scan and explore current grade-level engineering projects throughout the year. As projects change, the QR codes can be updated, turning the area into a rotating showcase of student learning. The Engineering Design Process pathway will connect the space and lead to an outdoor teaching area with benches and a large easel—transforming Hammock Haven into a place to relax, learn, create, and celebrate what our White Tigers design and build.
